Crime-fighting 'legend' slain

A managing director of Coin security company who was also a former police detective was shot and killed while trying to apprehend an armed robber at a shopping mall near Irene.

As the body of 37-year-old Jaco Pretorius was lifted out of his privately-owned Toyota Prado into the mortuary van, all those who knew him - ranging from police directors to the top brass in South Africa's private security sector - fought back tears as they tried to come to grips with their loss.
